F-117 Nighthawk is the first stealth aircraft to be put into service and it retired in 2008 as it was replaced by F-22 Raptor. F-117's primary role was stealth ground attack. However, the irony was that while "F" stands for fighter, Nighthawk actually could not perform air-to-air combat or self-defense. In 1999, a Nighthawk was shot down in Serbia and it is suspected that Russia and China used the remains of the technology to build their own stealth aircrafts such as Sukhoi PAK FA, J-20 Mighty Dragon, and J-31.
